ABOUT SHERIFF SCHILLARI
Sheriff Frank X. Schillari has proudly served as the Sheriff of Hudson County since 2010, leading one of New Jersey’s largest and most diverse counties with over four decades of experience in law enforcement. A lifelong Hudson County resident, Schillari was born and raised in Jersey City and lives in Secaucus with his wife Theresa. Married for nearly 50 years, they have two daughters and four granddaughters.
A U.S. Navy veteran and retired Sergeant of the Secaucus Police Department, Schillari’s career in public service began when he was appointed Undersheriff in 1997. He oversaw the Sheriff’s Office’s most successful programs before being elected as the 55th Hudson County Sheriff in 2010. Since then, he has been re-elected five times, modernizing the department and strengthening public safety through innovative policing and community engagement.

SHERIFF SCHILLARI’S RECORD:
A SAFER HUDSON COUNTY
- Established 24/7 patrols for county parks and roads, enhancing public safety around the clock
- Created the first-ever Traffic and Crash Investigation Unit to conduct detailed investigations of hit-and-runs and fatalities, and to recommend road and traffic improvements. This unit has partnered with Vision Zero and the State of New Jersey to secure grants for traffic law enforcement
- Expanded SWAT, Motors, and the K-9 Unit to improve emergency response
- Formed a High Water Rescue Unit to handle flooding emergencies
PROGRESSIVE POLICING
- Introduced body cameras for all officers to increase accountability and transparency
- Joined the Attorney General’s ARRIVE Together program to support people in mental health crises
- Modernized the radio system and vehicle fleet with state-of-the-art technology
- Completed a technology overhaul of the County 9-1-1 system, radio communications, and computer technology. The Sheriff’s Office is now a local resource for photo and video enhancement and provides on-scene fingerprint scanning to help identify individuals—a service available to all agencies
- Built partnerships with the DEA, FBI, U.S. Marshals, and Homeland Security to tackle organized crime and drug trafficking
PROTECTING ALL COMMUNITIES
- Established a special unit to protect houses of worship, ensuring faith communities feel safe and secure
- Created the Blue Envelope Program to support individuals with special needs during traffic stops
- Expanded and trained civilian security, assigning additional responsibilities to cover previously uncovered facilities across the county
STANDING UP
FOR TAXPAYERS
- Secured millions in grant funding to cover critical public safety services without increasing the burden on taxpayers
- Leveraged federal and state funding to modernize the Sheriff’s Office fleet, communications systems, and technology infrastructure—ensuring taxpayers don’t foot the bill for these critical improvements
- Partnered with agencies like Vision Zero and the State of New Jersey to bring in additional resources for traffic enforcement and road safety enhancements
- Expanded and restructured civilian security personnel, allowing the county to enhance security at more locations without adding to the financial burden on taxpayers
- Led the Auto-Theft Task Force to the highest recovery rate in the state, preventing millions in losses for vehicle owners and insurance costs for residents
